A Grave Conversation Floetry by JulietKego

Floetry by JulietKego:

#124. Heatbreak…. in slow motion.

Alone in April,
On a fool’s day
As spring ushers in
cold memories of winter
My hands reach for a decanter
my colourless brandy’s gone
And so are the whites

Heartbreak

Floetry by JulietKego: BURIAL (A Dirge for Naija)

She, who wears her heart
on your flowing dashiki sleeves
must learn to take it back and tuck it in,
into the zipless tight bands
of her ill-fitting, adire maxi skirts.
She, who dances egedege in innocence
under Delta rains,
her teardrops mired in mascara,
the mud rippling into rivers of truth
must learn to climb Udi hills;
mountains of amorphous Olumo rocks
steeped in sin in amorous layered Lokoja
And then cleanse her skin and soul
In Niger-Benue sister-rivers and Nike lakes.
Let the Jos plateaus set a table
filled with a sumptuous, bitter buffet,
call the rejects, the heartbroken
lost in the vineless, silent Idanre valleys
let us celebrate a love that breathes not
and as she sleeps on in coma;
prepare to pull the plug.
Give a befitting burial to Africa’s heart
and when robin birds sing a dirge
we will lower her non too gently
to the weighted arms of Nne,
the Mother Earth.

Heart break

#98. Heatbreak, in slow motion.

And in my left hand
an intricately patterned
Russian crystal wine-glass
half-filled, half-empty
with fine, tangy red wine
I am floating away
from myself

#95. Floetry by JulietKego: Remembering Love

We remember births and deaths
Do we remember when we forget
the face of love?

I remember standing before the mirror
In rubies and pearls
And it struck me that all I remember
Were the shells of what was
There was a time when we loved
I try to remember but there’s only a
blank space
The heart is broken apart
The mind holds a foggy memory of
…………..nothingness
And we stare on; lost in love,
Remembering love
But can we really forget
the face of love?
I do think not
The heart always remembers,
it is often the mind that tricks and forgets…

Floetry by JulietKego: A Bouquet of Poems

Today,
I found a bouquet of Earth’s 7 poems
resting on my doorsteps
One for each day of creation….

The air came alive
with perfumes of your poems
fresh, humble hibiscus,
giving, gazing gardenias,
wise izoras, pink thorny roses
Just a hint of flirty lilies,
a wisp of zany zinnias,
a smiling sunflower,
all laced up in a vase,
filled with the aromas of love

I inhale a fragrance of your words
and exhale epiphanies
I hear the soundless echoes
of forgotten secrets of my soul
and the universe whispered
gently back to me
mysteries of the tastes of us;
In lifetimes past
and seasons to come

I touch you, baby
in the unfolding petals
and in faithful, sturdy stems
pricked by your crazy thorns
piqued, for I see all our hues
the mad mystery of you and I
caught in this bouquet of love
I heave, I sigh, shaking my head
Dreams collapse, reality in its stead

Today,
I woke up to the sounds
of 7 poems weeping in my heart
Their tears, a reminder; we’re apart.
